Iceland on track for highest profit in over a decade

Iceland is expecting deliver its highest profit in over a decade thanks to its increased focus on value and cost-saving measures. The supermarket shared with bondholders last week it was confident that this year’s underlying profit will be its strongest in ten years and exceed the £176m it made in 2021 following a sales boost as a result of the closure of hospitality space in the lockdowns, The Times reported.

Retail New Zealand names Carolyn Young as its new CEO

Carolyn Young has been appointed Retail New Zealand’s new CEO, succeeding Greg Harford who will step down on July 21. Young was most recently the CEO of Special Olympics New Zealand and Netball Central Zone. She has a background in marketing, finance and accounting which gained from her previous roles. Outgoing chief Greg Harford will take up a new role as CEO at the Canberra Business Chamber.

M&S chair admits turnaround has ‘taken too long’

M&S’ chairman Archie Norman has admitted the retailer’s turnaround has “taken too long”. Speaking to LBC’s Money podcast, Norman revealed M&S was more than a third of the way towards reaching the target it set out in 2016 and warned that it “could slip back” if executives don’t pay close enough attention. Norman joined the retailer less than a year after then-chief executive Steve Rowe unveiled a five-year cost cutting programme and a shake up of its clothing and homeware lines.

M&S chair ‘unhappy’ with Ocado Retail as reset underway

M&S chairman Archie Norman told shareholders that he was “not happy” with Ocado Retail performance last week and said there was “work to do” with the joint venture it runs with the online grocer. Ocado Retail posted a £501m loss earlier this year, up from £177m the year before. According to The Times , the online grocer is set to receive 40% less than it had hoped in performance payments from M&S because of the decline.

Amazon warehouse workers target Prime Day for further strike action
