Former Asda CEO Allan Leighton returns as chair to lead recovery effort

He served as chair since 2021, and took day-to-day responsibility for leading the grocer alongside Rob Hattrell, an executive at TDR, the private equity firm that owns a majority stake in the supermarket chain, after co-owner Mohsin Issa stepped down. Leighton, was Asda CEO from 1996 to 2001 and chaired the Co-op for almost a decade.
