In 2022, Starbucks , the first American coffee brand to promote pumpkin spice lattes, launched the popular drink on August 30. But the real origin story begins in 2003, when Peter Dukes, then-director of espresso Americas for Starbucks, was leading a research and development meeting to come up with a new fall drink.
