Last month, Aldi introduced self-checkouts at its Darlinghurst store in Sydney as part of a wider trial. After returning home, they set about establishing a no-frills discount store selling only non-perishable items at low prices. According to CNBC , both brothers were conscripted to fight for Nazi Germany during the war.

In a further sign that Brits are seeking out value-for-money wherever possible, discount stores were up 8.8 percent, seeing their largest growth since April 2021. Eight in 10 (81 percent) are worried about “shrinkflation” – when products are sold in smaller packages or portion sizes yet cost the same or more than they used to.
