Asda becomes first UK supermarket to publish fuel prices online

Asda has become the first supermarket to publish its fuel prices online following criticism from MPs over “sky high” prices.

The supermarket will display the prices of petrol and diesel at each filling station on its store locator page.

The information will be updated at 10:30am each morning with the previous day’s closing price.

Asda said it was looking to introduce a system that would show real-time prices in the coming months.

The supermarket added that it will continue to work with the government as it develops an industry-wide fuel finder scheme.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published the findings to its fuel pricing probe last month, revealing that drivers had paid an additional £900m for fuel from the UK’s four main supermarket-owned forecourts in 2022 due to retailers hiking their profit margins.

As a result, the watchdog has asked supermarkets to release their fuel pricing information to give consumers better comparison data on local rates.

Asda spokesperson said: “Asda is proud to be the price leader in the fuel and by sharing our prices online customers will be able to find the best value at the pumps before they get in the car.”
