Morrisons shakes up flexible working model at HQ

Morrisons has shaken up its flexible working policy at its Bradford head office.

The supermarket introduced a four-day work week for staff four years ago with the catch that they were required to work 13 Saturdays a year.

However, under the new changes coming into force next month, staff will have their 37.5 contracted hours spread over a four-and-a-half-day week instead, The Grocer reported.

It is understood that the Saturday work day had not been popular among the 2,000 staff based at its West Yorkshire head office.

In the last year, fellow supermarkets and other retailers have joined Morrisons in introducing a shorter work-week for its staff.

Rival Asda revealed last week that it was trialing the four day week to improve retention among store managers.

Sainsbury’s and M&S also introduced flexible working policies that allowed staff to work compressed weeks last year.
