Ebay joins Depop in ditching fashion selling fees

Ebay UK has scrapped selling fees for pre-worn clothing in an effort to encourage circular fashion.

Items already listed on the online marketplace before today (April 8) will also benefit from no selling fees, Drapers reported.

Ebay said the move was prompted by its consumer research that found only 25% of shoppers sell their unwanted clothes, despite 92% of adults saying they have over one items of clothing they haven’t worn in the last 12 months.

The platform’s general manager of global fashion Kirsty Keoghan said: “By encouraging more people to buy and sell pre-loved clothing, we’ll keep more clothes out of landfill as we collectively enable a circular economy for fashion.”

It follows rival Depop, which announced it was removing its 10% selling fees last month.

The resale platform said it would instead introduce a buyers’ fees on April 15 of up to 5% of the item purchase price, plus a fixed amount of up to £1.
