Carpetright unable to trade after cyber attack

Carpetright has been unable to trade online or in-store for almost a week following a cyber attack.

Hackers targeted the flooring specialist’s head office in Purfleet, in Essex, last week by sending malware to gain unauthorised access.

Staff told The Times that customers had been unable to place orders on its website or at any of its 400 shops since last Thursday when systems were taken down.

One employee told the publication the retailer’s bosses were hoping to resume trading by Wednesday (24 April).

The retailer’s staff have also been affected by the cyberattack, with its 3,000 workers reported unable to access payroll information.

Carpetright told the Daily Mail that the virus was isolated before any customer and employee data was taken.

A spokesperson for the retailer said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We are not aware of any customer or colleague data being impacted by this incident and are testing and resetting systems, with investigations ongoing.”

The flooring chain is the latest retailer to be hit by a cyberattack, joining Boots, WHSmith and JD Sports which were hit last year.

Retail Gazette has contacted Carpetright for comment.
