Shein investor hired as group vice chairman of the business

Shein investor Marcelo Claure has been hired as the new group vice chairman of the discount clothing company.

The executive, who also previously served as CEO of Softbank, initially joined the business back in January as chairman of Shein Latin America.

In his previous position, Claure oversaw the launch of Shein Marketplace in Brazil, as well as the £123.2m investment in localising the business’s Brazil manufacturing operations.

As group vice chairman, he will work with Shein chief executive Chris Xu and executive chairman Donald Tang, while continuing to work on the Latin America arm.

The executive founded wireless distribution and services company Brightstar back in 1997.

In 2014, his company was sold to Softbank, and Claure was appointed CEO and chairman of telecommunications business Sprint.

Claure said: “What attracted me to Shein, as both an investor and operator, is its unique business model and the way that it empowers designers and local suppliers in communities around the world.

“I look forward to working with the talented Sheinteam as the company delivers on its mission to make the beauty of fashion accessible to all”.
