Marks & Spencer has extended its agreement with BP to keep its stores on the oil company’s fuel forecourts in the UK until at least 2030.

The two companies first linked up in 2005 and M&S stores are now on nearly 300 BP-operated forecourts.

M&S Food managing director Stuart Machin said that the renewed agreement will mean that M&S and BP will continue “to work together to invest in the look and feel of the stores, building on the M&S renewal programme”.

The fresh deal is based on the belief that the convenience sector will continue to grow.

In a statement, BP said: “During lockdown customers were buying 20% more at BP forecourt stores and this trend continues as the forecourt becomes an integral part of the community.

“Based on Euromonitor analysis, in 45 of the leading economies of the world convenience is expected to nearly double by 2030, growing at more than 5% a year.”

The statement added that around half of forecourt transactions are now retail only (not involving fuel).
