Asda signs up Michael Bublé to star in Taika Waititi directed Christmas ad

Asda has signed up singer Michael Bublé to star in its Christmas advert.

The Sun reports that Bublé will appear as a checkout worker in a series of ads directed by Taika Waititi, who directed JoJo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok.

Bublé is inextricably linked with the festive period, and his Christmas album is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century. He is tipped to sing on the Asda ad.

The grocer has made the huge signings after it won the battle of the Christmas ads last year with its Buddy the Elf homage.

Asda used original footage from 2003 film Elf along with some camera trickery to create the ad, which saw Buddy inadvertently join the Asda team on a trial shift.

The ad was extremely popular, with viewers and advertising effectiveness company System1 ranking it the best advert due to its potential to drive brand impact.
