Sam’s Club Completes Chainwide Rollout of Inventory-Scanning Robots

Sam’s Club has completed the addition of inventory scanning capabilities to the fleet of robotic scrubbers in its nearly 600 stores. The cloud-connected Inventory Scan towers incorporated into the scrubbers capture data as the robot moves autonomously around the store, providing insights into product localization, planogram compliance, product stock levels and pricing accuracy verification.

The warehouse club retailer began testing the inventory scanning functionality in October 2020 and started this chainwide rollout in January 2022. Parent company Walmart already had been working with Brain Corp, which created the AI-powered core technology, since 2018.

“Our initial goal at Sam’s Club was to convert time historically spent on scrubbers to more member-focused activities,” said Todd Garner, VP, In-Club Product Management at Sam’s Club in a statement. “Our autonomous scrubbers have exceeded this goal. In addition to increasing the consistency and frequency of floor cleaning, intelligent scrubbers have empowered associates with critical insights.”
