There are many methods businesses can use to attract and retain customers. These include stunning displays to draw people in and let them know about their products and/or services. Another way is to have promotions running.

Promotions can include special offers, discounts and a lot more. The best bit is, if marketed in the right way, they can cost little to nothing.

Let’s face it, there are two worlds: the physical world and the internet. Any successful business will have a foothold in both, in some way. This is even if they’re primarily an eCommerce business or solely land-based. There are various social media platforms that are free to use and can reach a large audience quickly, if the customer-base is studied intently and the right marketing strategy is applied.

Another important tool is your company’s website. Nowadays, it’s imperative for most businesses to have one, and it makes sense if they have an online presence. Having a clutter-free landing page that’s easy for users to navigate will often mean they’ll spend longer browsing other pages in it.

Customers also want quick and uncomplicated sign-up methods, along with easy and secure payment systems. The goods or services that your business provides are why customers visit your site, so they don’t want to spend any longer than is necessary on things that slow this down. The only exception to this may be finding out about promotions that could be beneficial to them.

Types of Promotion

As we mentioned before, there are plenty of different types of promotion that can be used to garner customer attention and that all-important sale. The type of promotion a business uses will be dependent upon what product or service they’re providing.

An online bookshop may have a buy two, get one free offer on books and free delivery if customers spend over £50 on books. In contrast, an online gaming site wouldn’t need to provide free delivery as they’re providing a service and not a product. It would make sense that their promotions are geared around their games.

For instance, a bingo site may have a room providing 1 penny games for a set time every day, whether weekday or weekend, to encourage people to regularly play in it. Another type of promotion is for players to play free bingo, again for a set time, every day. With both, there are terms and conditions that should be read before opting to play them. This is simply for players to know how to play and what they can expect by doing so.

Loyalty bonuses for existing players are also an effective way to acknowledge and thank customers for continuously returning to a site.

Promotions are an effective marketing tool for businesses to use, whether they’re land-based, eCommerce, or a mixture of both. Their end goal is always the same, and that’s to increase their customer retention. However, for a promotion to be effective, it has to be relevant to the product or service the business is providing. This is when they need to utilise their marketing knowledge and offer the right one for their customers to benefit from, as well as themselves.
