Organic supermarket chain PCC Community Markets will delay the opening of its Rainier Square location due to uncertainty regarding downtown Seattle’s recovery, reports The Seattle Times. A shortage of workers combined with lack of potential shoppers influenced the decision.

The 20,000-square-foot store will be located on the ground floor of the 58-story Rainier Square Tower building, a multi-use structure built including retail, office and residences that was slated to open this summer. Officials have pushed the opening until “early 2022”.

More than 450 downtown retailers, restaurants and businesses have closed permanently since January 2020.
