Fast Fashion Firms Prepare for EU Crackdown on Waste Mountain
September 5, 2023
Moda Re, a garment re-use and recycling charity, plans to double the volume of clothing it handles at its sorting centre in Barcelona to 40,000 metric tonnes per year. The expansion is part of efforts to tackle Europe’s clothing waste problem, with less than a quarter of the continent’s 5.2 million tonnes of clothing waste currently being recycled. Moda Re is partly funded by Zara-owner Inditex and aims to turn used clothes into raw material for fashion companies.
