Finalists named in 2022 Australian Fashion Laureate nominees

IMG has named this year’s finalists for the Australian Fashion Laureate awards, with winners due to be announced at a ceremony in Sydney on November 22.

The awards were instituted by IMG in 2008 and are supported by the NSW government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. 

The awards are considered among Australian fashion’s “highest accolades” with nominees chosen by a panel of industry leaders including Australian Fashion Laureate alumni, leading fashion journalists, creatives and top retail executives.

This year’s finalists are:

Designer of the Year, presented by BTC Markets

  • Adrian Norris and Edwina Forest of Aje.
  • Rachel Gilbert.
  • Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman, Camilla and Arc.
  • Christopher Esber.

Emerging Designer of the Year, presented by LG

  • Alix Higgins.
  • Jordan Gogos from Iordanes Spyridon Gogos.
  • Lesleigh Jermanus of Alemais.
  • Jordan Dalah.

Indigenous Designer of the Year, presented by Redken

  • Denni Francisco of Ngali.
  • Liandra Gaykamangu of Liandra Swim.
  • Laura Thompson of Clothing The Gaps.
  • TJ Cowlishaw of Aarli.

Sustainable Innovation of the Year, presented by DHL

  • Bianca Spender.
  • Kit Willow of Kitx.
  • Matt Jenson of MJ Bale.
  • Sarah Munro and Robert Sebastian Grynkofki from Sarah and Sebastian.

Natalie Xenita, VP and MD of IMG’s fashion events and properties for Asia-Pacific, said the Australian Fashion Laureate celebrates the hard work and creativity of Australia’s top designers and their role in the growth and global recognition of Australian fashion.

The winner of the Carla Zampatti Award for Excellence in Leadership, created in tribute to the late fashion designer, will be announced at the opening night of Zampatti’s retrospective exhibition at the Powerhouse, Ultimo on November 23.
