Carhartt, Hanna Andersson Highlight Product Durability with New Resale Programs

Carhartt and Hanna Andersson debut resale programs.

Two new entrants into the world of resale, Carhartt and Hanna Andersson, serve very different consumer segments, but both are highlighting the same brand attribute with their resale programs — their products’ durability.

Premium workwear brand Carhartt has partnered with Trove to launch its resale program, Carhartt Reworked, which the brand said expands on its “legacy of building durable gear with the highest quality materials.” Premium childrenswear brand Hanna Andersson is doubling down on its long-standing reputation for durable products that can be handed down from kid to kid with the new Hanna-Me-Downs program, powered by Archive.

As the name implies, Carhartt Reworked will offer repair and resale of previously worn or slightly imperfect gear. The program will gather inventory from consumer trade-ins, customer returns and imperfect inventory.

“Carhartt Reworked is an extension of our commitment to deliver the durability and reliability that hardworking people know and love, while reducing our environmental footprint,” said Gretchen Valade, Director of Sustainability at Carhartt in a statement. “With the help of Trove’s expertise in circular business and recommerce, we’re able to keep Carhartt products in use longer, out of landfills and in the hands of people who need it.”

For the Carhartt consumer trade-in program, products must meet certain “condition standards,” be less than 10 years old and have had an original MSRP cost of $50 or more. Categories available for trade in include outerwear, shirt-jacs, bibs and overalls, hoodies, sweatshirts and pants. Customers who trade in eligible gear will receive a digital gift card that can be used at Carhartt Reworked, Carhartt.com or Carhartt company stores. Any gear not eligible for trade-in will be recycled or donated. Product returns and imperfect inventory will either be immediately available for resale or cleaned, repaired and reassessed, to be either eventually resold or recycled.

Resale items are now available for purchase at Reworked.Carhartt.com, and the trade-in program will be piloted in six stores across the U.S. before expanding to all Carhartt retail locations in 2023. As the program evolves, trade-ins will eventually also be available via online mail-in.

“Carhartt is known for its high-quality fabric and stringent durability standards, meant to stand the test of time, which is why it feels natural to create a system to extend the life of such hardworking gear,” said Gayle Tait, CEO of Trove in a statement. “As the first workwear brand to offer a resale program, Carhartt is setting the industry standard and investing in efforts to build a fully circular product lifecycle, and we’re proud to be part of that.”

Empowering Babywear Buyers and Sellers

Hanna Andersson Hanna-Me-Downs resale program.

Premium kids and babywear brand Hanna Andersson has debuted the online resale destination Hanna-Me-Downs in partnership with Archive. Designed to make the resale of its “made-to-last” apparel, pajamas and accessories easier than ever, Hanna-Me-Downs will serve as a one-stop shop to buy and sell pre-loved Hanna Andersson merchandise.

“Kids are tough on their clothes, from crawling as babies to exploration and play as kids, and it’s typical for childrenswear to be discarded early in its lifecycle, contributing to excess waste and landfill,” said Aimée Lapic, CEO at Hanna Andersson in a statement. “Our team performs rigorous wash and wear testing to ensure every new fabric and design meets our high standard of delivering the long-lasting, quality clothing our customers deserve and have come to expect. Through this new offering we’ll build on our Hanna-Me-Down philosophy, and practically speaking, that circularity is a win for our consumers, future generations, and therefore Hanna.”

The self-service portal will give sellers access to the brand’s descriptions, images, fabric information, size charts and more to make listing seamless and transparent as possible. When items sell, sellers have the choice to receive cash for their product or 125% of the value of the resale as a gift card for HannaAndersson.com.
