As all three agreed on the pronunciation “Re-sees,” the comments section was soon brimming with alternative pronunciations and spirited clarifications from viewers.

One viewer used Reese Witherspoon as a point of reference, stating, “We say Reese like Reese Witherspoon. Like Reese’s dress is blue.” Others emphasized the pronunciation as “ReesIS Pieces,” aligning with the rhyming phrase, while some insisted on “ree-sis.”

One individual, claiming to be from Hershey, the town synonymous with the candy, confirmed that it’s pronounced as the possessive form of Reese, aligning with its spelling and origin — H. B. Reese, the founder of the Reese’s brand. This spirited exchange underscored the enduring debate over the pronunciation of this iconic candy’s name.

Hershey Reveals Official Pronunciation of Reese’s Through Halloween Video

In a playful move to settle pronunciation debates, Hershey, the parent company of Reese’s, directed inquiries about the correct way to pronounce Reese’s to its new Halloween-themed video. Narrated by Hollywood star Will Arnett, a frequent voice in Reese’s advertisements, the video serves as an official guide for anyone unsure about how to correctly pronounce Reese’s. As many believed, it’s the possessive form of “Reese,” and it rhymes with “pieces.”

The New York Post also revealed how “the beloved peanut butter cups were cooked up in 1928 by H.B. Reese, an employee of the Hershey Company, per the Hersheyland website. Ninety-five years after their creation, Reese’s cups are America’s most popular Halloween candy, followed by M&M’s and Hot Tamales, according to a CandyStore.com analysis of sales data from 2007 to 2022. “
