The new supermarket concept Addie’s , a self-described “drive-up grocer,” has opened its first store in Norwood, Mass., fueled by $10.1 million in seed funding it recently received from Rose Park Advisors. The pickup-only store does not allow in-store shopping; instead, the store serves as an onsite warehouse designed solely for stocking, storing and bagging groceries.

Sydney’s Paddy’s Market is at the centre of a debate over its redevelopment with some traders and members of the public opposing plans to give the venue a significant facelift. Foot Locker will lay off an unspecified number of employees in corporate and support roles with the goal of saving $18 million annually, according to a filing with the SEC. Additionally, the retailer will wind down its Sidestep banner in Europe to better enable it to focus on its core businesses. The cuts are part of Foot Locker’s plans to “simplify the business” and put a greater emphasis on omnichannel operations, according to CEO Mary Dillon.

Starbucks reported a 10 percent gain in U.S. same-store sales as customer traffic to its coffee shops increased one percent. The chain reported that customers bought a record $3.3 billion in gift cards during the holiday season. The coffee giant’s performance in China, its second-largest market, was way off, with same-store sales down 28 percent as a result of that country’s zero COVID policy.

Travel company Flight Centre has entered into a binding agreement to acquire UK-based premium leisure travel business Luxury Travel Holdings Limited (Scott Dunn) for A$211 million. Scott Dunn offers tailor-made luxury holiday packages to high-value customers. It is established in the UK and the US and has a small presence in Asia. Flight Centre MD Graham Turner said the company is “well positioned” to help Scott Dunn “unlock a new era of growth”.

Three years after the pandemic upturned the grocery industry, omnichannel chain H-E-B has regained its leadership position as the top U.S. grocery retailer from Amazon , with Costco following closely behind in second place, according to the sixth annual Dunnhumby Retailer Preference Index (RPI).
