EU Considers Applying New Tech Rules to Microsoft’s Bing and Apple’s iMessage
October 9, 2023
EU antitrust regulators are seeking input from Microsoft users and competitors regarding whether Bing should be subject to new stringent tech regulations, as well as whether the same should apply to Apple’s iMessage. This comes after the European Commission initiated investigations in September to determine if Microsoft’s Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising, as well as Apple’s iMessage, should fall under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DMA mandates companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and ByteDance to enable third-party apps on their platforms and facilitate user transitions from default apps to alternatives.
