Chick-fil-A Giving $29 Giftcards in Lawsuit Settlement

Chick-fil-A devotees may find themselves on the receiving end of a gift card windfall, thanks to a recently settled lawsuit. A $4.4 million settlement was reached following a class-action lawsuit lodged in Georgia. The lawsuit was initiated because of allegations that Chick-fil-A advertised free or inexpensive delivery but then upped food prices specifically for delivery orders.

The lawsuit revealed the fast-food chain was allegedly inflating food prices for delivery orders by a substantial 25%-30%. The allegation highlighted that the same order of 30-count chicken nuggets costs around $5-$6 more when placed for delivery as compared to pick-up orders or in-store purchases.

The crux of the complaint was that Chick-fil-A did not make customers aware of the price increase for delivered food. While the restaurant chain has not accepted the blame, it has agreed to the settlement. It pledged to earmark $1.45 million in cash and $2.95 million in gift cards to resolve the claims.


In a bid to be more transparent, Chick-fil-A has also consented to include disclosure notices on its mobile app and website. These notifications will clarify that product prices may see a hike for delivery orders.

As part of the settlement, class members are anticipated to either receive a $29.95 payment or a $29.95 gift card. However, the final amount could decrease if the number of participants in the settlement increases.

Only specific customers qualify for this settlement. To be eligible, customers must have made a delivery order using the Chick-fil-A One App or website between Nov. 1, 2019, and April 30, 2021. Additionally, only orders placed from a Chick-fil-A location in California, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, or New York qualify.


Anyone who believes they may be eligible for the settlement must submit a claim by Feb. 15.
