Cruise Ship Worker Accused of Installing Hidden Cameras in Bathrooms

March 7, 2024

A worker for Royal Caribbean Cruises is accused of installing hidden cameras in bathrooms to spy on young women. Arvin Joseph Mirasol taped a video camera in one of the ship’s bathrooms to spy on the women, he allegedly told authorities when arrested on March 3.

“If I like who is in that room, I place” the camera there, Mirasol said in a six-page federal criminal complaint, as reported by People Magazine. The complaint claims that Mirasol allegedly said he selected girls who were 16 and older. However, authorities claim he at times filmed girls much younger.

Mirasol worked as a stateroom attendant. He was responsible for servicing guest cabins, including cleaning, restocking towels, and making beds.

He was arrested on March 3, 2024, after a guest found a camera inside her stateroom bathroom while on the Symphony of the Seas cruise. The cruise began its voyage in South Florida, later stopping in Aruba, Curacao, and Haiti, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The guest reportedly reached under a bathroom sink to get a toilet paper roll on Feb. 26, 2024. It was there she found the camera. She then called security.

Royal Caribbean reported Mirasol that same day to authorities. According to the arrest report, security officers then detained him in a confinement room until the ship returned to South Florida. Upon the vessel’s return to port, Homeland Security agents and Customs and Border Patrol officers boarded and took Mirasol into custody.

In a statement to People Magazine, Jonathan Fishman, a spokesman for Royal Caribbean Group, said, “We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities.”

Mirasol is now facing six counts of video voyeurism and one federal count of possession and production of child pornography following his arrest Sunday at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He has been fired by Royal Caribbean, per Fox Business.
