TGI Fridays’ Chicken Bites Recalled for Possible Plastic Contamination
December 19, 2023
If you’ve recently picked up a bag of TGI Fridays “Honey BBQ” flavored boneless chicken bites, it’s time to take a quick inventory of your freezer. With a recent food recall by the Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), it’s important to double-check and make sure you do not eat this food product until it’s announced that it’s OK to do so.
The USDA’s FSIS is issuing a food recall for approximately 26,550 pounds of these particularly popular chicken bites that were manufactured on Oct. 3. Why? Certain batches of these bites have had reports from consumers finding an unexpected crunch — clear hard plastic under the typically crispy breading.
This recall has been initiated by the restaurant chain’s supplier, Simmons Prepared Foods Incorporated. The company has voluntarily pulled back its product from the market after realizing that the chicken bites could be “contaminated with extraneous materials” — a fancy way of saying that there might be pieces of clear, hard plastic in your chicken bites.
There have been no reports of injury or illness after consuming the product since this notice was made public. This recall is a preventative measure, taken to ensure that no harm is caused.
These chicken bites have been shipped to retail locations nationwide, so it doesn’t matter where you are in the country; if you’ve recently purchased TGI Fridays “Honey BBQ” boneless chicken bites, it’s time to check your freezer and ensure you’re not at risk. The product is 15 ounces with lot code KL3K03 and a best-by date of Dec. 26, 2024.
If you’ve bought these chicken bites, it’s best to return them to where you purchased them or throw them out. Keep an eye out for more updates from the USDA and Simmons Prepared Foods Inc.
