Foot Locker Unveils ‘Store of the Future’ Concept

April 24, 2024

Mall staple Foot Locker has unveiled the “store of the future,” which will give its sneaker ambassadors the ability to elevate their customer service through a sharpened high-tech toolkit.

Details of the new look and customer experience were revealed in a company press release. The retailer introduced the reinvented retail format at its Willowbrook Mall location in Wayne, New Jersey. This store will serve as a blueprint for the future of other Foot Locker stores. This “store of the future” model features “a bold storefront, distinct in-store environment, expanded footwear and accessory selections, an emphasis on sustainability, dynamic digital fixtures, and other technological advances.”

Mary Dillon, president and CEO of Foot Locker, said, “Our new store concept cements Foot Locker’s position as the leader in sneaker culture by offering an engaging, cutting-edge shopping experience for the sneaker passionate. As we continue progressing against our Lace Up Plan, this inventive retail experience delivers on our promise to power up the portfolio, while providing an unparalleled, omni-focused customer experience.”

The new store concept’s features include an immersive shopping journey and new sections beginning at the store’s entrance. There, the latest sneaker releases and trending products will be prominently displayed. Also new to the company is something called Elevated Brand Storytelling. These opportunities help enhance product presentations, allowing customers to better understand the features and benefits of their desired shoes.

The “store of the future” also includes a communal try-on area and a “sneaker hub,” which provides specialized lacing customization, expanded omni-ordering choices, and personalized FLX experiences. Finally, expanded digital technology allows employees to participate in omnichannel inventory availability and gives customers multiple fulfillment options, transforming the in-store checkout journey.

Throughout the year, Foot Locker’s innovative store concept will continue to expand, with new locations set to open across various cities. Among these, the flagship store on 34th Street in New York City will lead the way. Additionally, revamped Foot Locker stores will debut internationally in Paris, Melbourne, and Delhi. There has been no official word regarding when all Foot Locker stores will feature this new store concept.
