California fast-tracks gas ‘price gouging’ bill

The California Assembly has voted to pass SBX1-2, a new bill that would penalize oil companies for engaging in “price gouging” at gas pumps. The bill if passed would allow the state to set a maximum gross margin for refining gasoline and give it a mechanism to assign penalties for violations. The legislation could be signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom as early as this week.
