PetSmart is the latest company to face calls for a boycott for selling products that show support for the LGBTQ+ community. The retailer’s “You Are Loved” collection was introduced “to help pet parents and their pets celebrate the spirit of Pride and share our values of inclusion and unconditional love,” according to Kristin Shane, senior vice president and chief merchandising officer at PetSmart. The chain has donated $600,000 to GLSEN, a group “dedicated to ending violence, harassment and discrimination” against young LGBTQ+ people in schools. The latest FBI crime statistics show that bias crimes against LGBTQ+ individuals rose 70 percent from 2020 to 2021.
