Aldi has been named the UK’s Favourite Supermarket at the annual Good Housekeeping Food Awards.
The title, which was voted for by thousands of Good Housekeeping readers, is one of five accolades awarded to Aldi – more than any other retailer. The discount retailer also claimed top spot for Favourite Wine Retailer, Favourite Premium Supermarket Range for its iconic Specially Selected range, Favourite Supermarket for Fresh Produce and was also named as having the Favourite Budget Range.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, says: “At Aldi we make sure we offer the best quality products, at the best possible prices. We believe that access to great quality food is a right not a privilege.
“And it’s a privilege for us to be named the nation’s favourite supermarket. A lot of hard work goes into making sure we give our shoppers the quality they deserve, and to have that hard work acknowledged by shoppers themselves means all the more to us.”
It is the second time this year Aldi has been named Britain’s best supermarket, following the grocer’s success at the Retail Week Awards in March.
It’s also not the first time Aldi’s wine and spirits range has been recognised, having been named Multiple Retailer of the Year at the Drink Business Awards last month. With a focus on strengthening its range of homegrown wines, as well as investing heavily to ensure 40% of the supermarket’s wine gives customers change from a fiver, Aldi has become the fastest growing wine retailer in the UK.
And it’s not just favourite supermarket accolades the retailer has been collecting; this year it broke records by becoming the only supermarket ever to be found the UK’s cheapest for 12 consecutive months by consumer group Which?.
