Financially overextended consumers and a lack of governmental oversight have Marshall Lux, a fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School, worried that buy now, pay later programs are leading consumers, particularly younger ones, to take risks that blow up in their faces.
