Electric Cooktops Named by GE Appliances Recall

December 1, 2023

An important GE appliances recall has just been made. GE Appliances, now a part of Haier, has issued a recall for their “Knob-control electric radiant cooktops, model GE JP3030.” This decision has been made in response to potential risks that could pose a burn hazard to owners of these appliances. GE Appliances has disclosed that they have received 83 reports of instances wherein the burner either failed to accurately regulate temperature or power off when the knob was flipped to the “off” position. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.

GE Appliances has announced a significant product recall that involves its JP3030 knob-controlled electric radiant cooktops. This recall focuses on cooktops manufactured between July 2022 and September 2022, with serial numbers that start with LT, MT, RT, or ST prefixes. These cooktops are identifiable by their black or white glass surfaces and consist of four radiant burners. Each burner has a corresponding “Hot Cooktop” light and a control knob located on the right side of the cooking surface.

The recalled cooktops were produced by Haier US Appliance Solutions Inc., which does business as GE Appliances in Louisville, Kentucky. All the affected units were manufactured in the United States. Furthermore, these cooktops have been sold at major home improvement and appliance stores nationwide, including Best Buy, Lowe’s, and The Home Depot, from July 2022 through 2023. The average pricing ranged between $1,110 and $1,220.

The following table outlines the specific model numbers, UPC codes, and serial number prefixes implicated in this recall:

In order to verify your cooktop’s model number, UPC code, and serial number, please refer to the permanent label located at the bottom of the unit, near the front left burner location.

In the affected units, the burner may continue to stay operational even after being set to the “off” position. While the “On” indicator light would not be lit, the “Hot Cooktop” light linked to the burner will remain illuminated until power to the cooktop is switched off at the breaker switch.

If you own one of these cooktops, it’s crucial to contact GE Appliances immediately to schedule a complimentary replacement of the burner knob assembly. As precautionary measures, when the unit is not being used, please switch it off at the circuit breaker and avoid leaving flammable items or empty cookware on or near the cooktop at all times.
