The Double Big Mac Returns at McDonald’s
January 11, 2024
McDonald’s is all set to appease consumers with the Double Big Mac. Starting on Jan. 24, consumers can order this special item, which comes with four beef patties. This large burger is not entirely new, as the Double Big Mac made a brief appearance on the menu in March 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic altered everyone’s lives and fast-food eating habits.
The return of the Double Big Mac also signals McDonald’s revamp of its core burger line-up. The brand is introducing softer buns, finessed grilling techniques for an improved sear, and better melted cheese. And if you’re a fan of the Big Mac sauce, there’s good news — the burgers will come loaded with more of it.
Fully aware that variety is the spice of life, McDonald’s often comes up with limited-time offerings to shake up its menu and keep customers intrigued. However, the re-emergence of the Double Big Mac might be more than just another marketing tactic. McDonald’s CEO, Chris Kempczinski, hinted last month that customers are showing a huge appetite for bigger burgers, and the company is listening. Introducing a double-sized version of their iconic burger is a smart move. It uses existing ingredients and doesn’t add any extra workload on its employees.
The timing of these larger burgers isn’t random. Many customers are tightening their belts in the face of economic uncertainty, and the rising cost of a McDonald’s burger has been noted as a sign of inflation. However, McDonald’s promises that the Double Big Mac will be cost-effective. According to Kempczinski, they’re committed to delivering a substantial, large burger that offers more value than anything else on the market.
McDonald’s isn’t new to experimenting with the Big Mac. In the past, the fast-food giant has enticed customers with variations like the Grand Mac and the Mac Jr., released in 2017 and 2018. Though the Grand Mac also featured two patties, they were bigger than the regular Big Mac patties and were served on a larger bun.
