Mega Millions Jackpot Rises to Over $687M

March 6, 2024

The Mega Millions jackpot has risen to over $687 million after no winner was recorded for the Tuesday, March 5 drawing. The next drawing takes place on Friday, March 8.

Tuesday’s winning numbers were 2, 49, 50, 61, and 70, plus the gold Mega Ball 14. According to the official lottery website, just two tickets matched the five white balls to win the second-tier prize. These winners were in California and Michigan, and the tickets are worth upwards of $1 million each.

In total, 23 tickets matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the third-tier prize. Four are worth $20,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier 2X Tuesday night. The other 19 third-tier winning tickets take home the standard $10,000 each.

The Friday drawing is the 26th drawing in the current jackpot run. The jackpot continues to grow upwards of $687 million ($332.3 million cash).

The winning ticket would be the sixth-largest Mega Millions prize ever awarded. There have been only five previous jackpots larger, each exceeding $1 billion.

This current Mega Millions jackpot has continued to grow since the lottery’s last winner on December 8. That ticket was purchased in California.

Since Jan. 1, 2024, there have been 25 drawings. During these drawings, there have been more than 17.3 million winning tickets at all non-jackpot prize levels, ranging from $2 up to $4 million.

There have also been 28 prizes of $1 million or more won in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

Mega Millions tickets are $2 per play and an additional dollar for the Megaplier option. The deadline for purchasing a ticket is 9:45 p.m. on draw nights. The official Mega Millions drawing takes place at 11 p.m. EST.

The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 302,575,350.
