Planters Nuts Recalled in 5 States Due to Listeria Fears

May 6, 2024

Fans of Planters Nuts should check their products if they live in five states where the snack foods were recalled due to listeria fears.

A press release from The Food and Drug Administration announced that a limited number of two Planters products produced at one of the company’s facilities in April are being recalled. Hormel Foods Sales, LLC says the recall impacts two retailers in five states.

The products were shipped to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina and Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia. They are being recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or older adults, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The recalled products are limited to 4-ounce Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts packages and 8.75-ounce cans of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts. The “Best if Used By Date” is located on the bottom of the Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts can, and the UPC is on the side.

The dates and UPC codes for the recalled products include the UPC 2900002097 for the Honey Roasted Peanuts, which has a sell-by date of April 11, 2025. The Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts has a UPC of 2900001621, and its sell-by date is April 5, 2026.

No other sizes, varieties, or packaging configurations of Planters products are included in this recall. To date, there have been no reports of illness related to this recall, and all retailers that received the affected product have been notified.

If you have purchased one of these products, you can discard it or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or exchange.
