Whataburger Opens 1,000th Restaurant With Atlanta Celebrations

January 16, 2024

In an exciting new development, Whataburger, the famous Texas-based fast-food chain, is now serving its burgers and fries in its 1,000th restaurant. This significant landmark opens its doors on Tuesday at the Cobb Parkway location in Atlanta, right down the street from the Battery.

This grand opening isn’t just about burgers. As part of the celebration, Whataburger is making a generous donation of $10,000 to the Atlanta Food Bank. Adding a cherry on top of this celebration, the first two drive-thru guests will get free Whataburger for a year.

In recent years, Whataburger has rapidly expanded its footprint in the metro Atlanta area, opening eight more locations in counties like Cobb, Cherokee, Gwinnett, Athens-Clarke, Dawson, Forsyth, and Jackson. Whataburger now has a significant presence across 14 states, but its fan base extends far beyond these borders.

The popularity of Whataburger is astounding. More than 2 million people actively follow the brand on Facebook. Notably, its Fancy Ketchup alone has over 16,000 adoring fans on the platform.

If you’re skeptical about the brand’s appeal, consider this: Newsweek named Whataburger one of the nation’s favorite fast-food chains in 2022. Also, in its previous 2021 rankings, the brand stood out as the No. 2 on the list of “America’s Best Customer Service Companies.” No small feat.

It’s the chain’s customizable burgers and the introduction of limited-time menu offers every quarter that have helped it garner such a large, loyal following.

Whataburger’s history stretches back to 1950 when Harmon Dobson founded the very first location in Corpus Christi, Texas. By 1959, Dobson had opened the first Whataburger outside of Texas in Pensacola, Florida.

Fast forward to 2021, and the brand had over 840 restaurants in 10 states: Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and of course, its birthplace, Texas. Recently, the company also announced that it would be expanding into Colorado and Missouri.

With the opening of the 1,000th restaurant, Whataburger has indeed broadened its reach in the fast-food industry. It continues to bring its unique flavor and customer service to fans everywhere.
