Amazon Reveals New MK30 Delivery Drone
October 23, 2023
Amazon has revealed its latest delivery drone, the MK30, which is smaller, faster, and boasts double the flight range of its predecessor, the MK27. Unveiled at the company’s “Delivering The Future” event, the MK30, with its custom-designed propellers, will be operational in 2024 and is expected to reduce noise levels. The new drone’s extended range will enable Amazon Pharmacies to cater to a broader customer base across varied weather conditions, such as light rain.
Prime Air, the division operating these drones, forecasts that the drones will deliver orders from Amazon Pharmacy within 60 minutes and provide over 500 common medications. Amazon Pharmacy anticipates enhancements in services using machine learning to estimate insurance and co-pay prices, and Entity Recognition to streamline the conversion of prescriptions sent via e-prescriptions, fax, or phone into a processing-ready data format.
To ensure extra quality assurance, the initiative will employ Computer Vision technology to double-check the accuracy of dispensed pill packs for polychronic customers. Furthermore, generative AI will be introduced to boost customer service agent support speed.
Amazon is also partnering with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Ipsos to explore how automation technology is reshaping the work of Amazon employees and how it can assist in their career evolution amidst emergent technologies.
