A Giant Gingerbread Buc-ee’s Store Is on Display in Texas

December 14, 2023

A creatively crafted replica of the Bastrop Buc-ee’s, complete with gingerbread cutouts of familiar faces to Williamson County, has been constructed by Texas natives Deanna and Paul Vaters.

Deanna, a reputable employee serving the Williamson County Tax Assessors’ Office for the past six years, and her husband Paul have taken their festive gingerbread house crafting to an unprecedented level. Turning the local Buc-ee’s into a snowy gingerbread haven, they’re introducing something unique and delightful to their community.

The couple embarked on their creative quest by visiting the Buc-ee’s in Bastrop. Next, they “went to work building their creation out of gingerbread, icing, and candy. To make it more realistic, they added Buc-ees signage, model cars, and photo cutouts of some of her coworkers either getting gas, fixing luggage, walking dogs, or changing tires.”

Embracing the tradition of creating a gingerbread house, Deanna and her husband have sparked anticipation among her coworkers, who eagerly await their festive gingerbread depictions each year. This festive tradition has been a part of Deanna’s life for a long time. Before she began sharing her gingerbread creations with her current office, she loved presenting them at her former workplaces.

Deanna and Paul’s enthusiasm for the festive season and their joy in spreading happiness are clearly visible in their gingerbread work of art. The couple derives immense satisfaction from their creative endeavors, believing that their detailed gingerbread creations bring joy to their colleagues.

“We love it. My husband and I love it. We love doing stuff for coworkers. Wherever we work we like to incorporate any kind of Christmas. We enjoy making people happy and people really appreciate it.”

The delightfully intricate gingerbread Buc-ee’s has now found its home on display at the tax office, radiating festive cheer — a testament to the Vaters’ creativity — and bringing a charming touch of holiday magic to Williamson County.
