Rizo-López Foods Recalls Dairy Products Nationwide
February 6, 2024
Rizo-López Foods, Inc. (RLF), known for delivering dairy products across the nation, has issued a significant recall voluntarily. This sudden move is due to a potential contamination with the Listeria monocytogenes organism in its products.
The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes poses serious health threats. In severe cases, it can lead to fatal infections, especially in the young, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Its symptoms range from high fever, headache, and stiffness to nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The health risk is particularly heightened for pregnant women as the infection could lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have reported that RLF might be linked to the current Listeria monocytogenes outbreak affecting people across the country.
The products involved in this recall have been distributed nationally by RLF and its partners. They were also sold through retail deli counters at prominent markets like El Super, Cardenas Market, Northgate Gonzalez, Superior Groceries, El Rancho, Vallarta, Food City, La Michoacana, and Numero Uno Markets.
The recall entails a multitude of dairy items, including cheese, yogurt, and sour cream. These products were sold under several brand names: Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market.
Customers are urged to inspect their fridges and freezers for any products falling under the recall. If found, they should be disposed of immediately. For any queries, customers can reach out to RLF’s helpline at 1-833-296-2233, which is available around the clock.
RLF has shared a comprehensive list of the recalled products, sorted by brand, size, UPC, and sell-by dates. All products, regardless of their sell-by dates, are included in the recall. The list includes various types and brands of cheese, sour cream, and yogurt, available in varying sizes at retail deli counters.
This voluntary recall is being executed with the full knowledge and oversight of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of consumers.
