Walmart building case-ready beef packing plant in Kansas

Walmart will invest $257 million to build a beef-packing plant in Olathe, KS. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said the new plant, which will create 667 permanent jobs, “will further Walmart’s efforts in creating an end-to-end supply chain for high-quality Angus beef while increasing transparency and capacity in its supply chain to deliver high-quality products for its customers in the Midwest.”
Walmart ground beef is a profitable commodity and work on the new plant is set to begin later this year and complete sometime in 2025. During this process, the 330,000-square-foot plant will provide employment to 1,000 people in the areas of design, fabrication, and construction.
In another interesting turn of events, Walmart ground beef expanded with a minority stake in Sustainable Beef LLC.
This move allows the retailer to source Angus beef from its own newly built processing center out of North Platte, Nebraska.
