Focus: Walmart Bets on Inventory Software Ahead of Tough Holiday Shopping Season
September 18, 2023
Walmart is utilizing a machine-learning algorithm, which incorporates weather patterns and historical sales data, to predict the inventory needs of its 4,700 U.S. locations in preparation for the upcoming holiday shopping season. This software, developed in 2019, reflects innovative approaches retailers are taking to streamline inventory management. After grappling with excess stock last year, Walmart’s implementation of algorithms and robotics, along with inventory adjustments, has put them in a more favorable position, according to CEO Doug McMillon.
