Dom’s and Foxtrot Grocery Stores Close After Merger

April 24, 2024

Dom’s Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot Market, two grocery chains based in Chicago, have announced the closure of all their stores. This decision comes six months after the companies merged.

The closure was confirmed through a message on Dom’s Kitchen & Market’s website, stating that despite their efforts, they couldn’t find a viable option to continue the business. The closure affects all Dom’s and Foxtrot stores, including delivery services, mobile apps, and store credit cards. Any remaining Foxtrot and Dom’s account credits and member perks will also expire.

Dom’s had two locations in Chicago, while Foxtrot operated 33 stores across Chicago, Texas, and the Washington, D.C., area. This merger aimed to combine Dom’s upscale grocery stores with Foxtrot’s high-end convenience stores under the new entity, Outfox Hospitality.

Dom’s, founded by Bob Mariano, the creator of the Mariano’s grocery store chain, opened its first location in Lincoln Park in June 2021. The second store launched in Old Town in November 2022. The concept behind Dom’s was to offer a small-scale grocery focusing on specialty items, prepared foods, and locally sourced products. Additionally, the stores featured wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, and coffee shops, allowing customers to enjoy wine and beer while shopping.

“This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the impact it will have on you, our loyal customers, as well as our dedicated team members,” the companies said in a statement. “We want to express our sincerest gratitude for your support and patronage throughout the years. It has been our highest honor to elevate the everyday and create a remarkable shopping experience for people who love food as much as we do. It has been a privilege serving you and being a part of your everyday lives.”

Despite the efforts to provide a remarkable shopping experience and elevate everyday shopping, the challenges faced by the businesses led to this unfortunate decision.

Dom’s Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot Market’s closure marks the end of their journey in providing unique grocery experiences to their customers. The closure signifies a loss for the community, leaving a gap in the market for specialized and curated grocery offerings. Customers are left reminiscing about the enjoyable wine tastings, cooking classes, and personalized shopping experiences they once had.
