Target has tapped Michael Fiddelke, who has served as the retailer’s CFO since November 2019, to add the COO role to his responsibilities. He will wear both hats until Target names a new finance chief. Current COO John Mulligan announced his retirement plans in October 2023.

As COO, Fiddelke will oversee Target’s nearly 2,000 stores, its global supply chain network, fulfillment services, network capacity planning, enterprise operations and the teams responsible for building and remodeling Target stores and facilities. Fiddelke began his career as a consultant with Deloitte and joined Target as an intern in 2003 after earning an MBA at the Kellogg School of Management. He has held a variety of leadership positions across the organization, most recently as SVP of Operations.

Target also has split responsibility for its merchandising functions. Rick Gomez, currently the retailer’s Chief Food and Beverage Officer, will oversee frequency categories as Chief Food, Essentials and Beauty Officer. Chief Merchandising Officer Jill Sando will handle discretionary categories as CMO of Apparel and Accessories, Home and Hardlines. Both Gomez and Sando will continue to report to Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington.
