Target Creates Chief Guest Experience Officer Role as it Expands Senior Leadership Team

Target has named Cara Sylvester to the newly-created role of EVP and Chief Guest Experience Officer. She which will lead the strategic development of Target’s customer experience both in-store and online, reporting directly to CEO Brian Cornell. Target also expanded its leadership team with other promotions and expanded the duties of the Chief Growth Officer position.

The Chief Guest Experience Officer role was designed to put an emphasis on personalization and to further differentiate Target’s customer experience from other retailers. The office will bring together the marketing, digital and technology teams to achieve this goal. Sylvester has been with Target since 2007, most recently as Chief Marketing and Digital Officer.

Brett Craig was promoted to EVP and CIO, where he will report to Sylvester. Craig has been with Target since 2008, most recently as SVP of Digital, and has held leadership roles across various other business areas. Current CIO Mike McNamara will transition to a strategic advisory role through the end of January 2023 before officially retiring.

Arthur Valdez will join Target’s leadership team in his current role as EVP and Chief Supply Chain and Logistics Officer. Valdez joined Target in 2016 and has helped transform the retailer’s supply chain network by providing Target with the necessary agility to meet evolving omnichannel needs. Valdez will continue reporting to EVP and COO John Mulligan.

Additionally, EVP and Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington will assume responsibility for Target in India. Hennington currently has oversight of merchandising, product design and sourcing, as well as strategy, insights and growth. Her leadership of Target in India will help drive further connectivity between Target’s team in India and the retailer’s global growth strategies. Hennington, who has been with Target since 2003, will continue reporting to Cornell.
