A development application has been lodged for a $40 million retail centre in Devonport, Tasmania with Woolworths confirmed as the anchor tenant.

Stony Rise Village will be built adjacent to the suburb’s Devonport Homemaker Centre. The 7500sqm neighbourhood retail centre is scheduled to open in 2024.

Developer Tipalea Partners says a leasing campaign will commence later this year for a variety of tenants to colocate with Woolworths, which will take 4000sqm, including a 400sqm online direct-to-boot and pick-up service.

Scott Spanton, CEO of Tipalea Partners, says the centre will provide convenient everyday shopping facilities for the booming residential populations in Stony Rise, Miandetta and further south to Latrobe, Spreyton, Sheffield and other suburbs.

“The local community population is on such a high-growth trajectory, and Stony Rise Village is essential retail infrastructure that supports and enables this growth – these residents shouldn’t have to battle into the CBD to do their basic everyday shopping,” said Spanton.

“Stony Rise Village will also be the most technologically advanced neighbourhood centre in the north-west with a full solar array, EV charging stations, weather station, free wifi, wireless charging stations, a dedicated smart building app, cloud-based CCTV throughout, car counters, duress intercoms and a building information dashboard.”

Tipalea is also constructing a 5900sqm Glebe Hill Village shopping centre in Hobart – the first new neighbourhood shopping centre in Hobart in over a decade.
