A Pea in the Pod Returns to Physical Retail With Locations in NYC and Chicago

Maternity retailer A Pea in the Pod has returned to brick-and-mortar with stores in Chicago and New York City. The two shops will carry an assortment of maternity and nursing apparel from leggings to bras, with associates on hand to provide complimentary bra fittings, style advice and other assistance.

A Pea in the Pod parent company Destination Maternity closed all its banners in late 2019 following bankruptcy proceedings. The retailer was acquired by Marquee Brands for approximately $50 million in December 2019 with plans to emphasize “ecommerce, select wholesale partnerships and strategic marketing relationships.”

“Prior to the pandemic all our retail locations were closed, and since then, we’ve been focusing our efforts on offering moms and expecting moms-to-be a robust digital shopping experience that’s accessible and convenient,” said Marla Ryan, EVP of A Pea in the Pod and Motherhood Maternity in a statement. “However, we understand we have a unique customer who appreciates the opportunity to shop and try on clothing in person, as her body changes throughout pregnancy and post-partum.”

The new stores are being opened in partnership with Leap, a platform that helps retailers open omnichannel-enabled stores.

“Having a physical retail presence is incredibly important these days and we’re thrilled to enable A Pea in the Pod’s return to omnichannel retail in their core markets of Chicago and New York City,” said Amish Tolia, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Leap in a statement.
