French lawmakers will consider a draft law that would prevent Amazon (Seattle) from offering virtually free delivery for book purchases, reports Politico. The law, which originated in the Senate, is backed by French President Emmanuel Macron and was proposed to protect brick-and-mortar retailers from competition with Amazon.

“The objective is to reduce the distortion of competition between online players who can offer book deliveries at one cent, and the others,” said Géraldine Bannier, an MP from Emmanuel Macron’s party who is in charge of the bill.

The draft will be reviewed by the National Assembly’s culture committee next week.
