Afterpay to sponsor New York Fashion Week

Expanding its partnership with IMG, Australia’s buy now pay later leader Afterpay will serve as the presenting sponsor at New York Fashion Week this September.

The firm already acts as the title rights sponsor of Australia Fashion Week, which is also run by IMG, and will use this opportunity to support American designers and the US fashion industry.

“After the uncertainty of the past year and the toll that Covid-19 has had on fashion, retail and the city of New York, it is a privilege for Afterpay to be a part of the revitalisation of this critical industry,” Afterpay co-founder and co-CEO Nick Molnar said.

“Through our work with IMG, we are proud to be an integral part in creating a new future for the fashion industry, one that offers accessibility, inclusion and sustainability to retailers and consumers.”

President of IMG’s fashion events and properties Leslie Russo said the fashion industry’s resilience has been unparalleled, as customers shunned the industry for a time when the pandemic was at it’s worst. And, in some places, fashion has struggled to recover.

“Our industry has faced countless setbacks during the pandemic, [but] with our new partners at Afterpay we are proudly committing to not only reignite the commerce and creativity showcased at America’s most critical fashion industry event, but revitalise New York’s fashion and retail sectors at large,” said Russo.

Afterpay is also the title sponsor for London Fashion Week, in partnership with the British Fashion Council.
