It was only last year that the store had four self-service checkout machines installed but it has now added a further five after seeing the benefits of the first tranche.
Store manager Stuart Reeve said that the checkouts were particularly useful because the store routinely has a flurry of business between lectures, which meant the store needed eight staff on tills.
He added: “We have a lot of customers who are more likely to use a self-service checkout over a manually operated till, especially our student clientele.
“This is because they are faster to use, and the customer can keep away from other members of the public, making them feel safer when they are out shopping.”
