Union Challenges Macy’s Self-Checkout Policy

A union that represents Macy’s (New York) employees has won its challenge of a self-checkout-based sales policy that eliminate their commissions, reports CNBC. An independent arbitrator ruled the rule is a violation of its bargaining agreement.

In the future, Macy’s is required to exclude departments that offer commission-based pay from the self-checkout feature. About 600 employees at six Boston area stores represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers filed the grievance. The UFCW represented more than 11,000 Macy’s workers in cities like Seattle, New York and San Francisco.
