Thorntons, owned by Ferrero since 2015, is also refreshing its packaging.

Levi Boorer, customer development director at Ferrero, said: “Easter is a great time to celebrate with your favourite chocolate confectionery.

“Compared to Christmas, shoppers were more likely to make a dedicated trip for chocolate at Easter 2021 (21% versus 9% at Christmas, according to Kantar), showcasing the size of the opportunity for confectionery as we fast approach the occasion.”

Boorer highlighted the larger 220g Thorntons classic Easter egg as something that can “create trade-up opportunities in-store” and added that Ferrero Collection crispy eggs should sell well from January.

Ferrero Collection pralines are returning, with crispy eggs in hazelnut and cocoa flavours.

Ferrero Rocher’s range includes a boxed egg, the flame egg and the Grand Ferrero Rocher.

Thorntons will be re-launching its bunny figures with two new Happy Bunnies and across its egg range is removing plastic windows as part of its commitment to making all its packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
